Romeo And Juliet-Comparison Essay Essays - , Term Papers
Romeo And Juliet-Comparison Essay Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet interpreted by Zeffirelli are two versions of a classic tale of two young lovers. In reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and viewing Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet one becomes aware of many differences between them. Although the basic storyline remains the same, the differences are obvious. These differences can be found in the setting, characters and their speeches, and the culmination of the story. These differences between the versions produce two entirely different interpretations of the story. Zeffirelli changed the story by changing important scene by use of omitting characters or switching the order of the events. For example in Act V, when the Prince gave his final speech, Friar Laurence was supposed to be present to give his own confession, but was left out by Zeffirelli's version. This left the explanation of why the lover's were truly dead for the watchers to question. Shakespeare had Montague raise a statue in Juliet's honor, signifying the end of their feud. Zeffirelli, on the other hand, chose only to show the two lords together making for a weaker end. The omission of characters from important scene was not the only change noted between the two. Zeffirelli also took poetic license in the creation of Romeo and Juliet. He gave his lines to characters when in Shakespeare they were spoken by another. This was shown during the party scene, Act I, scene V when Lord Capulet was to rebuke Tybalt and call him?.......saucy boy.........? The line was instead given to Lady Capulet. This exchange of lines between the characters does not always help in the understanding of the story. The use of adding lines to characters created different personalities and gave the characters greater insight than in Shakespeare's version. It added in helping understand the character's motives more. Zeffirelli also had some positive differences than that of Shakespeare. Since the setting was in the same time period as Shakespeare's rendition the reader could visualize the environment and dress of the era. This made the characters and story more life-like than trying to picture it from a written page. Zeffirelli also ?fleshed-out? the characters, giving them more depth and emotion than in Romeo and Juliet. This is shown when the nurse goes to Juliet and finds her ?dead.? She runs out of Juliet's chamber screaming and flailing her arms in a frenzy. The audience was able to interact with the characters and their emotions by seeing Romeo and Juliet visually, also making the language more understandable. An example of this is when Romeo kills himself and Juliet sees him, hears guards, and you are able to see Juliet frantic. As a result of this, the scene is made more complete, causing the audience to experience greater tension than reading the play. Even though Zeffirelli gave more definition to some characters, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was more enjoyable. Although he did not give as much information as to what was happening, he allowed the reader more freedom to interpret the situations on their own. Without the reader having readShakespeare's Romeo and Juliet most of the symbolism in Zeffirelli's version would not have been understood. The two different authors used a variety of techniques to change the story or to have the audience understand the siuations. Though they may seem different at times, the storyline never changes, it always remains about two young lovers who tragically die as a result of snap-decisions.

Resist the Atomic Menace essays
Resist the Atomic Menace essays There are currently 110 working nuclear power plants in the United States today. The government claims that out of twenty-two years of operation, there has only been one mishap in the United States involving nuclear reactors, Three Mile Island located on an island 10 miles south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Yet core meltdowns have been known to occur at several reactor sites, including the Experimental Breeder Reactor in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Westinghouse Testing Reactor, in Waltz Mill, Pennsylvania; Stationary Low Power Reactor, in Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Fermi 1, in Lagoona Beach, Michigan (Against Nuclear Power). Since the near catastrophe at Three Mile Island in 1979, an exploration of government records revealed that there have been more than 23,000 mishaps at nuclear plants in the United States (Against Nuclear Power), an ever-increasing number. Plain and simple, nuclear power plants are dangerous. And despite their obvious drawbacks, the government still continues to offer billions of dollars in subsidies, money that could be put towards researching renewable sources of energy. One of the biggest problems with nuclear power is the potential for an accident. Contained inside a nuclear reactor are several pounds of radioactive material (including but not limited to radium, thorium, uranium, or plutonium), thousands of gallons of contaminated water, and other radioactive refuge. There are a variety of accidents that can occur involving nuclear power and its key ingredients. Most notable is the potential for a core meltdown. As was the case with Three Mile Island, an automated valve in the Unit 2 reactor was shut-off due to a mechanical or electrical error, thus preventing the flow of water and removal of heat responsible for cooling the core (The Meltdown). When the system should have automatically shutdown, it did not. The ensuing loss of coolant t ...

Personnel and organization conflict Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Personnel and organization conflict - Essay Example Performance standards typically emphasize individual performance, but they can also be used to measure group performance. The employees of a company must be notified in written about the performance standards that the workers must comply with. Appraisal programs include the performance standards in order to measure the performance of employees. Some of the measures that are estimated by performance standards include the quality, quantity, cost effectiveness and timeliness of the work performed. Performance standards are needed to control the labor output of the employees. For instance, if an employee is given a performance standard that specifies he must produce at least 25 units per shift, the employee will comply with that amount due to the existence of the performance standard. Monitoring performance standards of a job is a good way to measure the effectiveness of the worker. The use of performance standards can also enhance the ability of the manager to determine operating inefficiencies that need corrective actions to be fixed. Five types of performance measures that managers should consider are efficiency, quality, error rate, revenue, and compliance (Ofm.gov, 2009). Inefficient employees that commit errors must be tracked in order to remedy the situation. A way for management to reduce errors and to improve the quality of the work performed by the workers is through training and development. The use of performance measures helps managers identify weaknesses in the operations of a company. It is important to keep the employees motivated and with high morale to help them achieve a high level of performance. Performance measures enable managers to establish specific criteria for the workers to follow. The use of performance standards provides employees with duties and responsibilities to comply with (Indiana.edu, 2005). The use of written performance measures enables companies to comply with governmental regulations

Recently, the company has recorded profits of $16,302 million at the fiscal year of 2009. This was a disappointing figure considering the fact that the company has a revenue increase of 16% in 2009. The net loss for the comp any was $375 million, compared to last year which was only around $77 million. Hence, the companyââ¬â¢s revenue stream was declined 16% from last year. The companyââ¬â¢s financial ratios no doubt indicate that the company is facing tough times. For instance, the net loss in their operations is a drastic $375 million. This type of deficit will not enable the company to thrive in these harsh economic times. Furthermore, the companyââ¬â¢s earnings per share is extremely low, which raises the questions for the stockholders. The return on investment capital is -1.4%, which means that the company has low funds to buy fixed assets. The price/tangible book ratio is -18.03, which means the stock is undervalued. Face-to-Face Communication Is a Better Way of Communication Essay Example for Free
Face-to-Face Communication Is a Better Way of Communication Essay Imagine that your sweetheart keeps talking to you through telephone, the Internet or letters and refuses to meet you face to face even for a meal, what will you do? If I were you, I must be getting crazy! But things like this often happen in nowadaysââ¬â¢ society. With the development of communication industry, people are getting used to various so-called fast ways of communication. Personally, however, no matter how fast and convenient those other communication modes can be, I think we should never abandon the most original way of communicationââ¬âface-to-face communication, which is more vivid, interactive and easier for us to promote relationships with others. Face-to-face communication can make it more fun and vivid to talk to others, because it contains much more nonverbal languages than other ways of communication. When you talk to a person face to face, you make eye contacts with each other, by which both of you can exchange your inside emotions. Furthermore, by observing the personââ¬â¢s gestures, you can also dope out his personalities and decide what kind of person he is. And maybe the least important one is that, as the old saying goes,â⬠all men search for beautyâ⬠, you can view the appearance of the person you are talking to, which might cause you rub out the birth of love if both of you are satisfied with each otherââ¬â¢s appearance. All of these make it attachable for us to feel the person we are talking to is a real and touchable individual. There are times when you have to deliver exact information to other people, and at such times face-to-face communication will be your first choice, because it creates an interactive and efficient conversation. Firstly, when you are talking to a person face to face, both of you can raise questions about anything you canââ¬â¢t understand, so that the other person involved can explain it clearly in time, which contributes a lot to eliminate the misunderstandings and barriers of your communication. Secondly, a personââ¬â¢s tone and voice can suggest his present mood, which can make it easier for you to perceive his subtle changes of emotion. Finally, in face to face communication, you can tell whether the words the person spoke are authentic through observing his facial expression , which can also ensure that the person you are talking to is a faithful one. All of these can make your talking more successful and efficient especially when you are negotiating with someone. Maybe the biggest advantage of face-to-face communication s that it can deepen your relationship with others, because it can kill the distance among people. When communicating face to face, you can see the smile on the personââ¬â¢s face, which will make you feel warm and kind; you can hug each other when youââ¬â¢re getting excited; and even a handshake can make you feel the respect from the other person. All that can make you get closer to each other, which may be hardly made attachable by communicating through telephone or e-mail. For instance, we are far away from home as college students, even if we call our parents almost everyday, we still feel homesick and lonely. Why? Because telephone can never make us feel as close as meeting each other face to face. And so does it among friends, if we donââ¬â¢t meet each other face to face as often as possible, we will soon feel that our relationships are getting cold. In conclusion, with all factors taken into consideration, I totally agree that face to face communication is better than any other type of communication. Now, try to communicate with people face to face and you will find it more colorful and efficient than calling others through telephone or greeting each other just by sending an e-mail!

George Washington Carver :: essays research papers
George Washington Carver à à à à à George Washington Carver was born a slave in Diamond Grove, Missouri. As a small child Carver was rescued from a band of Confederate kidnappers. From early on Carver was determined to get himself an education. Carver began his schooling in Newton Country, and while attending school he also worked very hard as a farm hand. While working and studying Carver lived in a one-room schoolhouse, and as time went on he excelled as sought out for higher education. Because of his race Carver was denied on attending Highland University. In 1887 Carver got excepted to Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. à à à à à Carver made many outstanding contributions to the agricultural world and also on America itââ¬â¢s self. Carver changed the face of Agriculture in the south with his crop rotation methods. Carver discovered through research and trail and error ways to help soil stay fertile. Through this discovery the nutrients would stay in the ground, and crops could be planted on the same soil year after year. Carver discovered that planting peanut one year then the next planting cotton would keep the soil fertial for the following year. The peanuts contained nitrate-producing legumes, and the cotton took all the nutrients from the soil, so the soil was fresh each planting season. The farmer took his peanuts and used them as a source of food for their livestock. Carver did not over look the peanuts as just food for animals, and found over 325 ways to use the peanuts for other reasons than food. He used peanuts to make peanut butter, cooking oil, printer ink, and many more use ful applications for the peanut. Carver being the introvator that he was also found many ways for the pecan and sweet potato to help the soil. Carver developed many synthetic products that could be used by all people and not too hard to make. Carver developed adhesives, bleach, cheese, instant coffee, syntheic rubber, and Worcestershire souce just to name a few.
